The Klaus Hoffarth Center for Critical Thinking

The Klaus Hoffarth Center for Critical Thinking (KHC) was established in partnership with Miriam College in 2025 through the generous support of the Hoffarth family.

The Center is rooted in the belief that Critical Thinking has a profound influence on Good Political Governance which leads to national development.

First, KHC aims to establish itself as a clearinghouse and resource center for critical thinking in the Philippines, particularly in relation to the integration of education and political governance. Second, KHC aims to develop and implement effective critical thinking-based programs in schools and other educational platforms. Third, through these critical thinking-based programs, KHC aims to raise the governance standards in all aspects of the Philippine political system, including voting policy, policymaking, policy implementation, and accountability.

KHC Launch & Blessing

August 28 marked the blessing of the Klaus Hoffarth Library and the launch of the Klaus Hoffarth Center for Critical Thinking in Miriam College.

A special thanks to Fr Bong Eloriaga for blessing the space, MC President OIC Grace Flores Favila for delivering the welcome remarks, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte for opening the event and DepEd Undersecretary Dr. Ronald U. Mendoza for delivering the keynote address.

THiNK for Good Governance.

The Klaus Hoffarth Center for Critical Thinking (KHC) has been established in partnership with Miriam College (formerly Maryknoll College). Through the generous donation from and efforts of an alumna, Victoria Bantug Hoffarth (Col ’68) and her son Paul, KHC is taking critical thinking further by linking it to the development of civic consciousness amongst our young people – those who will shape the course of our country in the years to come. Civic consciousness leads to civic engagement and hopefully, to a participative citizenry which practices good governance and expects the same from its leaders.

We need the next generation of Filipinos to understand what it means to be involved in shaping a progressive, safe, and united country where there is empathy, a desire to respectfully listen to different points of view, and to come together as one nation.

How does KHC plan to do this?

  • KHC aims to teach critical thinking skills to junior and senior high school students and those in college who have two semesters of the National Service Training Program (NSTP), a government-mandated subject.

  • Among these students, KHC aims to cultivate civic consciousness and encourage community involvement. Likewise, the spirit of nationhood, through such programs as voter education taught in a non-partisan manner, will help students identify key issues in their choice of leaders in the 2028 national elections. This is particularly relevant to the junior and senior high school students today who will be first-time voters in 2028.

  • KHC will have a resource center/library in Miriam College, which will be launched in August 2025.

As the projects of KHC continue to evolve, there will be more stories to share. Be sure to visit our website regularly for more updates.
