Leandro V. Locsin and Partners to Design KHC Library

Designers from highly acclaimed architectural firm Leandro V. Locsin and Partners designed a modern library for the Klaus Hoffarth Center for Critical Thinking set to open in 2025.

KHC is honored to have Leandro V. Locsin and Partners (LVLP) design its home in Miriam College Loyola Heights. The firm stands as a pillar of Philippine architectural history, a legacy rooted in the visionary work of National Artist for Architecture, Leandro V. Locsin. He was known for his architectural philosophy centered on a synthesis of Filipino cultural influences with modern design principles. Notable works include the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) complex, where you can find the Tanghalang Pambansa (National Theater), the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), and the Folk Arts Theater (Tanghalang Francisco Balagtas).

The KHC Library was designed to not only house relevant and interactive resources, but also to allow for special activities on critical thinking. It is a modern, flexible and creative space that can be used not only for individual work but for collaborative discussions, talks, workshops, exhibits and other meaningful events that foster critical thinking.

The LVLP team is led by Partner Arch. Edwin Matthew Varona, supported by Kirsten Alexis Casas and Angela Guillarte. Inspired by lines and dots, the library features movable partitions and workspaces, creating flexible and multi-use areas for different age groups and funtions. The design seamlessly integrates with the library's existing structure, which dates back to the early years of Maryknoll College, while also incorporating elements of its heritage, including its distinctive wrought iron grills. The KHC Library will also feature books and maps from the Hoffarth family collection. It is located on the first floor of the Miriam College Loyola Heights Caritas Building.
